Resident Stories: Elizabeth

Back to Blog

Elizabeth Roman has been a resident at Embrace Living Communities’ Castle Towers community since April 2024, where she moved after living out of her car for an extended period, bouncing around between the homes of friends and relatives. During this period, Elizabeth characterized herself as being quiet and simply going along with life as best she could. That changed when she moved to Castle Towers and found herself in the midst of a community that was even more welcoming and positive than she ever could have hoped.

Elizabeth found Embrace Living through her cousin, who lived at Castle Towers. Elizabeth would visit from time to time and was impressed by how beautiful the building was, remarking that it almost felt like a nice hotel. Having spent that time with her cousin, she knew Embrace Living would be a good fit, and applied to a few communities before getting accepted at Castle Towers.

She is thankful for the fact that Castle Towers is not only conveniently located in terms of stores, groceries and restaurants, but also that she is near family who live in the Chicagoland area and can come visit and help out. One of the things she looks forward to most about living at Castle Towers is utilizing its community room to have a reunion for everyone in the area to come and share a meal.

Her family members that have come to visit have commented on how much they like the building and the positive difference they’ve seen in Elizabeth now that she has found a community.

“My life has changed a lot in the last months living here,” says Elizabeth. “I don’t feel alone. I was afraid when I had my own apartment that I’d feel very lonely, but I don’t.”

Since living at Castle Towers, Elizabeth has already been to a few events to make friends, such as a Memorial Day cookout the community hosted. But beyond facilitated events, one of the things that has struck Elizabeth most about her new home is that everyone is welcoming all the time.

“My friend Matt was the first person I met here, and he showed me around and introduced me to a lot of people,” says Elizabeth. “They were all very friendly and upbeat. Every time I come out of my apartment and see people, they’re so kind. There’s even a group of women who play games in the lobby by the elevators who have invited me to play with them.”

“I’ve established quite a few relationships here, and it’s been great. I look forward to being with my neighbors because they’re very positive people, which is a nice change. You run into so many negative people, and here everyone has a positive outlook. You feel like you’ve been friends forever. That’s the best feeling, the best thing about living here: I come out of my apartment and everyone is so sweet, welcoming and positive.”
