Embrace Living Communities provides actively aging adults and people with disabilities with affordable, welcoming homes in communities where they can age well, supported by essential social service programs.
Our interns play an important role in advancing this mission. Through meaningful, hands-on experience, interns contribute to projects that strengthen our housing communities and expand vital social service programs. Current opportunities focus on grant research and applications, with additional internship areas anticipated in the future.
To ensure our residents have access to the programs and resources they need to thrive, we must secure grant opportunities that align with our social service programs and community priorities. This is where grant research interns can make a difference.
The Grants Internship is designed for passionate individuals who care about affordable housing, seniors, and people with disabilities. Interns bring attention to detail, strong writing skills, and a positive, collaborative attitude to work alongside our team in researching and applying for grants that will create the greatest impact.
We are grateful to our partners at the University of Chicago’s Jeff Metcalf Internship Program and Loyola University Chicago’s Community-Based Federal Work-Study Program. These partnerships have made it possible to launch and grow the internship program at Embrace Living Communities, ensuring students gain meaningful experience while supporting our mission.
“I’ve worked with nonprofits before, but this is the first formal role I’ve been a part of that was geared toward a community focus. I’m definitely interested in positions where I know I’m making a positive impact in a community.” - Dani Hanson, Summer 2024 Intern
“Every action that I take and the amount of work I put in is reflected in the communities. Some of these residents are at a low point, not making the most income or away from their families. Bringing social services that can help them, like health screenings, wellness checks and fitness classes, can bring their mood up.” - Marvin Galvan, Fall 2024 – Spring 2025 Intern
